Native Staten Islander Charles F. Peters, 76, of Cincinnati, a retired lead company analyst, died Monday at home.
Born in Tottenville, Mr. Peters relocated to Cincinnati in 1961.
After graduating from Tottenville High School in 1945, he joined the American Merchant Marine and served for 18 months. Mr. Peters then enlisted in the Army, serving for two years. He was stationed in Korea for much of that time.
In 1953, Mr. Peters earned a bachelor of science degree in business, with a concentration in accounting, from Wagner College, Grymes Hill. While at Wagner, he was a member of the ski club.
He was a methods analyst for the National Lead Co. in Sayreville, N.J., and later, its subsidiary, Nickel Processing in Manhattan. In the early 1960s, he relocated to Cincinnati, where he worked at National Lead of Ohio, Fernald. He retired in 1990.
Mr. Peters was a member of the Cheviot's (Ohio) Firemen's Association, as well as several golf leagues.
He enjoyed playing tennis and boating. Mr. Peters also liked to spend summers with his family at their upstate New York summer home, which has been in the family for more than 60 years.
"He had a good sense of humor and was very good-looking," said his wife of 52 years, the former Virginia Lea. She also said that he was very modest and he especially loved his family.
In addition to his wife, surviving Mr. Peters are his two sons, Richard A. and Craig M.; his two daughters, Linda P. Minter and Lorraine P. Buckley; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
His daughter, Christine Ann Peters, died in 1956.
The funeral service will be Friday at 8 p.m. in the Bolton & Lunsford Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Arrangements include cremation. Burial of ashes will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
